KUNA, Idaho ● Olympic gold medalist Kristin Armstrong is confident she can overcome her injury to earn a spot on the women’s team for the London Olympics.
Armstrong crashed her bicycle Thursday night in Boise during the first stage of the Exergy Tour, a final tuneup for riders competing for slots on the American women’s team.
She underwent surgery Friday and had pins installed in her clavicle. Then hours later, she was at the finish line of the second stage to make it clear she intends to rehab and compete in London.
Armstrong compared the setback to something that can happen midseason, and she has nine weeks to heal and return to racing form.
The selection committee will pick riders for the American team June 15.
